The Boys & Girls Clubs of Kootenai County aim to empower youth to support and influence their Clubs and their communities, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process, and respect their own and others' cultural identities through BGCA National Programs, as well as locally developed activities in several core areas.

Good Character & Citizenship

These programs help develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for planning, decision-making, contributing to Club and community and celebrating our national heritage.

  • Anti-Bullying Initiatives: Understanding Aggressive Behavior & Combating Bullying

  • Keystone and Torch Clubs: Character Development and Community Service Clubs

  • Leaders in Training: Leadership and Service to the Club Community, Service Learning Projects and Travel Opportunities

  • Youth of the Year: Recognition Initiatives for Outstanding Youth

Education & Career Development

These programs help youth create aspirations for the future, providing opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement.

Healthy Lifestyles

These initiatives develop young people's capacity to engage in behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.

  • Healthy Habits: Healthy Living and Active Learning about Nutrition, Fitness, and Improving Overall Health & Well-Being

  • Nutritious Snacks & Meals: Nutrition, Gardening and Cooking Classes

  • Passport to Manhood & SMART Girls: Small Group Health & Fitness, Prevention, Self-Esteem-Building, Resisting Negative Choices

  • NetSmartz: Internet Safety Skills Through Engaging Multimedia Activities

The Arts

Programs in this core area enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts, and creative writing.

  • Arts: Fine Arts, Dance, Drama

  • Fine Arts Exhibit & Digital Arts Festivals: National Fine Arts Program with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BCGA)

  • Imagemakers: National Photography Program with BGCA and Sony


Sports, Fitness, and Recreation

These Club programs help develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment and social interpersonal skills.

  • Triple Play Daily Challenges: Fun Activities that Inspire Health and Fitness

  • Triple Play Games Tournament: Social Recreation Tournaments

  • Triple Play SMART Gamesroom: Sponsored Play Where Mentoring Begins

  • Triple Play Sports: Basketball, Baseball, Softball, T-Ball, Flag Football, Soccer, Street Hockey, Handball & Volleyball


  • PGS Sports Academy: Introducing Youth to the Sport of Golf
