Marissa's Letter : Former Staff Member

The Boys & Girls Club of Kootenai County has impacted me in so many ways that are indescribable. After working with the incredible youth that attend the Club, I have learned so much about not only my community, but about myself. When I first applied to work at the Club, I thought of it to be a daycare for kids and teens to go to, and “hangout” after school. After one day of work, I knew that the Club was so much more. After working with the youth, and getting to know each child on a deeper level, I was soon shown that the Club was founded to build future leaders. Through different programs and events, I was able to watch the children, teens, and young adults flourish into great members of our community. Each child is constantly given opportunities to demonstrate their talents, or learn something new, helping each member develop into a more well-rounded individual. It is because of this experience that I have decided to incorporate non-profit work into my future career, as I have seen the incredible impact it can have on a community.
